Walorski Statement on the Life and Legacy of Elkhart City Councilwoman Mary Olsen
MISHAWAKA, Ind. – U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) released the following statement honoring the life of Elkhart City Councilwoman Mary Olsen, who passed away this week:
“Mary Olsen was a longtime friend of mine. She was one of the first people to encourage me to get involved in politics. Mary was by my side when I first ran for Congress and was the first person encouraging me to run again. She was there for me through thick and thin.
“Mary served on the Elkhart City Council for nearly 30 years. She was the longest serving woman on the council. Her passion to serve her community was second to none. Mary would fight for all of her constituents because she didn’t see them as Republican or Democrat, she saw them as her neighbor. Mary would take on the toughest challenges and would work across the aisle to get things done to better serve her constituents. Her passion for serving was respected by both Republicans and Democrats alike.”
Walorski represents the 2nd Congressional District of Indiana, serving as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Ranking Member of the House Ethics Committee.
