WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Jackie Walorski issued the following statement in response to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s announcement outlining the Obama Administration’s upcoming defense budget request for Fiscal Year 2015:
“The president’s reckless budget cuts and lack of a coherent foreign policy are burdening Hoosier families and threatening our national security,” said Walorski, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. “The fact remains that we live in a dangerous world, and we cannot solve our budget problems at the expense of our brave men and women in uniform and their families. I remain committed to enacting responsible policies that address our national debt while ensuring our service members have the training and resources necessary to meet current challenges at home and abroad.”
Secretary Hagel’s budget request reportedly includes billions of dollars in cuts to our Armed Forces in the form of a new round of base closures, reductions in active duty and reserve forces, reductions in housing and commissary benefits, and potential increases in health care fees.
