WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Jackie Walorski released the following statement after passage of the debt limit extension:
“While I have never supported defaulting on our national debt, I am very disappointed that President Obama and Senate Democrats have once again refused to offer constructive solutions to address the fiscal crisis in Washington that continues to run up our catastrophic $17.3 trillion national debt and burden Hoosier families.
“When I talk to Hoosiers at home they want to know lawmakers are working to make their lives a little easier. Under the current economic circumstances, any long-term increase in the debt limit should be coupled with meaningful reforms that will cut wasteful spending or create more jobs. Anything less is not helping our families. Instead of business as usual, Washington should focus on balancing the budget and paying down our debt. Hoosiers know a budget that balances creates jobs. Our families sit around the kitchen table and make tough decisions to live within their means each month, and they expect Washington to do the same.
“As a member of the House Budget Committee, I will remain at the table to work on commonsense solutions to get our fiscal house in order and ensure that the next generation has a shot at the American dream.”
