Walorski Leads Hearing on Evidence-Based Home Visiting Program

Debie Coble, President & CEO of Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Testifies on Success of MIECHV in Indiana

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.), the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Worker and Family Support Subcommittee, today led a hearing on improving family outcomes through home visiting programs.

The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program helps at-risk women and families by connecting them with voluntary human-based support through home visiting services. Congresswoman Walorski invited Debie Coble, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc., to testify on the success of MIECHV for Hoosier families.

“Connecting families in need with compassionate human support is proven to uplift families and change lives. Home visiting programs provide evidence-based support for moms, kids, and families in need. In Indiana and across the country, voluntary home visiting services are proven to prevent child abuse, improve health outcomes, and help families stay on the path to success,” said Congresswoman Walorski. “I’ve seen the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program deliver results, and I was grateful to welcome Debie Coble of Goodwill Industries of Michiana to testify on its success in our community. This program should serve as a model for taxpayer-funded investments in families. As Congress works to reauthorize MIECHV this year, I will continue to advocate for this evidence-based approach to help families thrive.”

In her testimony, Ms. Coble discussed the success of Goodwill Industries of Michiana’s work with Nurse-Family Partnership to connect mothers and their children with a nurse partner who provides regular visits. This program seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes, strengthen children’s health and development, and promote economic independence and mobility.

As the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support, Congresswoman Walorski is a strong supporter of the MIECHV program and was instrumental in its successful reauthorization in 2018. Congress is slated to reauthorize the MIECHV program, which falls under the jurisdiction of Congresswoman Walorski’s subcommittee, again this year.
