Weekly initiative highlights a local Hoosier or business for notable achievements

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Jackie Walorski (IN-02) announced this week’s honoree for her ‘Who’s Who in IN-02’ initiative. During a speech on the House floor, Walorski paid tribute to Starke County Initiative for Lifelong Learning (SCILL) Director Ron Gifford for his dedication to creating and nurturing a trained workforce for the growing industrial base in Starke County.

SCILL is a two-year training school for juniors, seniors, and industrial employees, offering several continuing education courses, computer classes, and an automotive technology program. A highly-trained workforce is the backbone of a strong, diverse economy and many of the skills needed to compete in the global market of the 21st century are technically-demanding.

“Currently, the demand for qualified workers is increasing at a pace far greater than existing communities can produce. Thanks to Ron’s dedication, SCILL has focused on developing and training more workers to meet this demand, building a strong workforce, and ensuring the steady growth of our economy,” Walorski said. “On behalf of the people of the Second Congressional District of Indiana, I thank Ron Gifford for elevating the contributions skilled workers make to our state, making our economy stronger than ever.”
