Walorski: We Must Make America Safer & Stronger

Walorski Votes to Fund U.S. Defense & Vital Ukraine Support, Urges Biden to Unleash American Energy

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives considered H.R. 2471, the Fiscal Year 2022 Appropriations Bill, late tonight. Split into two votes, Rep. Walorski voted in support of the security division to fund our Armed Forces and national defense, and she voted in opposition to the discretionary social spending division. Rep. Walorski also voted in support of a separate Russian oil ban.

“America must be equipped to lead in the 21st century. We need to make vital investments now to make America safer and stronger, especially by unleashing the full power of American-made energy and restoring our energy independence. Tonight I voted to fully fund our national defense with key provisions to support our Armed Forces, give our troops a pay raise, and strengthen our military preparedness. Additionally, this legislation includes protections for crucial allies, including support for Israel’s Iron Dome. I also voted to send vital humanitarian and lethal aid to Ukraine, as well as to ban Russian oil imports. The United States must continue to hold Russia accountable for Putin’s horrific and unprovoked war on Ukraine.

“As Americans face rising prices at the gas pump and the grocery store, our nation can’t afford to drive inflation further with reckless social spending. To serve as responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, we must reject excessive spending and instead prioritize creating jobs, resolving supply chain bottlenecks, supporting small businesses, and helping hardworking American families succeed.”

Republicans were able to secure key provisions in this legislation, including a six percent increase in defense funding from fiscal year 2021, a pay raise for our troops, and Hyde Amendment protections to prevent taxpayer funding for abortion services.

Walorski represents the 2nd Congressional District of Indiana, serving as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Ranking Member of the House Ethics Committee.
