Walorski Op-Ed: Unleash the Full Power of American Energy to Cut Gas Prices

In The Elkhart Truth, Rep. Walorski Outlines Playbook to Boost American-Made Energy and Lower Fuel Costs for Hoosiers

WASHINGTON, DC – In The Elkhart Truth, U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) outlined a strategy to combat skyrocketing fuel costs and strengthen America’s energy security by unleashing American-made energy production.

“We could flip the switch today and end our reliance on foreign adversaries by rolling back Biden’s executive orders, restarting the Keystone XL pipeline, fast-tracking natural gas exports, and expediting the approval of fracking, pipelines and other energy sources to take an ‘all-of-the above’ approach to energy independence,” wrote Congresswoman Walorski. “We have a playbook that works. Under the previous administration, Republicans took decisive action to invest in American- made energy, create good-paying jobs, and strengthen our energy security. Hardworking Americans can – and should – power our country.”

Citing the radical executive orders President Joe Biden signed on his first days in office, Congresswoman Walorski condemned the administration’s anti-energy agenda and emphasized the importance of restoring America’s energy independence.

“Putin’s war on Ukraine has laid bare the importance of strengthening America’s preparedness to counter 21st century threats. Energy security is national security,” Congresswoman Walorski continued. “Ending Biden’s attack on domestic energy production and unleashing the potential of American-made energy will not only cut costs for Hoosier families, but also make our nation safer, stronger, and more resilient.”

Unleash the full power of American energy to cut gas prices

Whether you’re headed to work, running an errand, or driving the neighborhood carpool, these days it’s nearly impossible to ignore mounting costs of fuel and other basic necessities. This week, gas prices in Indiana and across the country rose to record-breaking highs and there’s no end in sight.

Hoosiers are certainly feeling pain at the pump, but contrary to what the president has said, this is not Vladimir Putin’s price hike. Prices started skyrocketing long before Russia’s heinous and unprovoked war on Ukraine.

With gas well above $4 per gallon across Michiana, Hoosier families, farmers, and small businesses are suffering from the consequences of President Joe Biden’s full-scale assault on American-made energy.

On his first day in office, Biden signed a radical executive order to kill the Keystone XL Pipeline. Then, he continued his attack by singlehandedly suspending critical oil and gas leasing and ramping up Obama-era regulations on America’s energy industry.

Time and time again, the Biden administration has chosen to pursue radical Green New Deal priorities over driving realistic solutions for Americans. The end result? Higher costs for American families, fewer jobs for American workers, and more reliance on foreign adversaries like Russia, Iran, and Venezuela.

This didn’t have to happen. Less than two years ago, America was energy independent.

To correct course, we must immediately unleash the full power of American-made energy. America has been blessed with bountiful natural resources and innovative technology that can harness our country’s energy potential. Here in the heartland, Indiana is poised to lead in biofuel production with our robust corn and soybean business. Hoosiers have the opportunity to produce 1.2 billion gallons of biodiesel each year.

We could flip the switch today and end our reliance on foreign adversaries by rolling back Biden’s executive orders, restarting the Keystone XL pipeline, fast-tracking natural gas exports, and expediting the approval of fracking, pipelines and other energy sources to take an “all-of-the above” approach to energy independence.

We have a playbook that works. Under the previous administration, Republicans took decisive action to invest in American- made energy, create good-paying jobs, and strengthen our energy security. Hardworking Americans can – and should – power our country.

Gone unchecked, the current gas crisis could have catastrophic ramifications for American families in the weeks and months to come. Farmers, facing rising costs of diesel and fertilizer, will be forced to pass along these expenses to consumers just to stay afloat – raising prices at the grocery store even higher.

This crisis has been compounded by Democrats who are shamelessly out-of-touch with the American people. Just this week, both Biden and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg have offered electric vehicles as the immediate answer for Americans struggling to afford prices at the pump. I’m here to tell the president and the former mayor of South Bend that buying a Tesla isn’t a simple option for most working families.

As prices continue to spiral out of control, this is the time for solutions grounded in reality. Energy independence is the answer.

Putin’s war on Ukraine has laid bare the importance of strengthening America’s preparedness to counter 21st century threats. Energy security is national security. Ending Biden’s attack on domestic energy production and unleashing the potential of American-made energy will not only cut costs for Hoosier families, but also make our nation safer, stronger, and more resilient.
