Congresswoman reads to students to support education

ELKHART, IN – Congresswoman Jackie Walorski today joined students at Mary Beck Elementary School to celebrate Feed The Children’s “Read Across America” Day. After reading her favorite Dr. Seuss book to the children, Walorski visited with students and teachers to promote reading and education.

“It’s a privilege to participate in “Read Across America” to celebrate the importance of reading in school and outside the classroom for all students,” said Walorski. “We are privileged to have Feed The Children stop in Elkhart County to help our communities enrich educational resources and provide school supplies for our dedicated teachers.”

Feed The Children participated in two “Read Across America” events in Elkhart, with plans to stop at Hawthorne Elementary School this afternoon. Better World Books, a longtime partner, plans to donate books to each student. Volunteers, like Congresswoman Walorski, are signed up to read to the children throughout the events.

Walorski also stopped by the Teachers Store in Elkhart, a distribution center where teachers can find free school supplies for their classrooms. Feed The Children has provided over 30,000 books to area schools in the past year.
